Location, cultural authenticity and modernity are three qualities that are often difficult to harmonise in a rapidly developing city, yet Rosewood Doha, the latest addition to the Qatari capital’s burgeoning hospitality landscape, checks all three in one striking, marine-inspired design.

The centrepiece of Lusail, a dynamic new city bordering the Qatari capital, Rosewood Doha was designed by architect Ibrahim M. Jaidah, who envisioned the sculptural exterior lattice as an homage to the coral reefs that surround Qatar.

Envisioned by local architect Ibrahim M. Jaidah, Rosewood Doha commands attention with its distinctive coral-like façade, which creates a silhouette that complements its setting at the intersection of sea and city. The property occupies an enviable location in the $45 billion Lusail development, with a marina lined with superyachts on one side and the expansive Arabian Gulf on the other (it’s also just a 30 minute-drive from the award-winning Hamad International Airport). “I myself am a sailor, so I always look at the town from the sea,” says Jaidah. “Given its location, I wanted the hotel to feel as though it had come from the environment itself.”

The property features 155 rooms and suites, 162 apartments and 276 residences, which are split across two towers; each category offers a distinct interpretation of luxury living, Rosewood style. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame spectacular views, while the building’s distinctive lattice exterior creates dramatic shadows that play across the living spaces from dawn to dusk.

Timeless interiors blend contemporary influences with a locally inspired material palette.

Underpinning the hotel’s concept is a deep reverence for Qatar’s warm hospitality traditions, which embody karam, the Arabic word for generosity. Diane Nittke, who has styled multiple Rosewood properties around the world, manifests this philosophy through manor-like interiors that favour enduring elegance over fleeting trends. “We drew inspiration from the region’s natural beauty and design traditions to craft interiors that feel both timeless and contemporary,” she explains. Throughout the property, rooms feature a sophisticated palette of warm neutrals accented with burnt-orange tones borrowed from the desert and sea-inspired turquoise. Wave-patterned wallcoverings, custom crystal chandeliers, thoughtfully curated furnishings and intelligently reworked Qatari designs – often rendered in brass, textiles or wood – create a sense of being enveloped in local heritage.

The lattice façade creates an intriguing play of light and shade inside the Reef suite.

Where Rosewood’s brilliantly honed approach to creating a destination for – and by – the city really takes off is in its commitment to spotlighting Qatari artists and regional creatives such as Chaitra Arjunpuri, Yasser Al Mulla and Ahoo Hamedi, mirroring the nation’s diverse population. The hotel also fosters meaningful collaborations, such as bespoke chinaware by artist Ghada Al Khater, whose designs blend marine influences with Qatari calligraphy. These pieces were handmade at local pottery studio Clay Encounters. In bringing cultural storytelling to everyday rituals, Rosewood Doha offers a beguiling snapshot of Qatar’s layered creative landscape. rosewoodhotels.com/doha
