At One Palm, overlooking Palm Jumeirah, E Plus A Atelier has reworked an existing Dubai apartment into a home that feels calm and easy to live in amidst the chaos of the city. The brief wasn’t about making a bold statement or starting from scratch, but about using what was already there, bringing warmth, clarity and a sense of balance to a contemporary space with great bones and even better views.
The client wanted a full renovation that would soften the apartment’s modern architecture without losing its lines. The goal was to create a place that felt open and welcoming, but also intimate enough for everyday living. E Plus A Atelier’s response was a design approach they describe as Modern Warmth: a focus on natural materials, good proportions and spaces that feel relaxed rather than over-designed.
The layout was rethought to improve flow and make the most of natural light. The main living area opens directly onto the water, with furniture arranged to keep sightlines clear and movement easy. Instead of filling the space, the studio opted for sculptural, low-profile pieces and handcrafted accents that add interest without visual noise. Everything feels intentional, but nothing feels precious.
At the centre of this Dubai apartment is a large marble kitchen island, designed as both a working surface and a focal point. Its solid, monolithic form gives the open-plan space structure, while still allowing the kitchen to blend seamlessly into the living and dining areas. Above, a gently curved ceiling softens the geometry of the room and helps visually connect the different zones, creating a sense of continuity throughout.
Material choices play a big role in grounding the design. Warm oak herringbone flooring runs throughout the apartment, adding texture and a subtle rhythm underfoot. Marble surfaces are used sparingly but confidently, balancing durability with quiet elegance. The overall palette stays neutral, allowing light and shadow to bring the spaces to life as the day progresses.
The terrace was treated as a true extension of the interior rather than an afterthought. A water feature introduces a sense of calm, while a fully equipped barbecue area makes the space practical for everyday use and casual entertaining. With the doors open, indoor and outdoor spaces flow together naturally, reinforcing the apartment’s relaxed, open feel.
From a technical standpoint, as with most Dubai apartments the project required a high level of precision. Walls and partitions were adjusted to improve circulation, and all lighting, climate, and shading systems were fully integrated into a smart-home setup. Details such as ceiling coves, joinery shadow gaps, and concealed services were carefully coordinated to keep the architecture clean and uninterrupted.
One of the main challenges was working within a pre-existing layout while maintaining visual simplicity. A concealed corridor door, for example, required subtle floor-level adjustments to align perfectly with surrounding surfaces. These small but demanding decisions reflect the studio’s commitment to detail and restraint.
The finished Dubai apartment feels composed and confident. During the day, sunlight reflects off marble and oak, while in the evening, layered lighting creates a softer, more intimate atmosphere. It’s a home designed to adapt and above all, easy to live in.
