In 2022, the first look that Matthieu Blazy sent down the runway as the newly minted creative director of Bottega Veneta was a white tank top and trompe l'oeil blue jeans, all made out of leather. Right then we knew what kind of designer he would be: one that saw fashion as a fun and fabulous feast for senses. Since then, he’s proved himself to be a perfect match for the atelier which started as a handbag business and became a household name for its woven leather in-house speciality, Intrecciato: Reimagining Bottega Veneta’s codes in unexpected ways, his fringed dresses, slouchy knit collars, pillow-like oversized clutches and very recently, the house’s first fine jewellery collection, keep pushing Blazy's agenda that high-ticket fashion can be playful.

Latest case in point: the brand’s SS25 fashion show, where guests sat on animal-shaped beanbags. The collection, aptly named The Ark, is being snapped up by design connoisseurs from Milan to Miami.

Matthieu Blazy's first perfumes for Bottega Veneta follow in the same vein, combining artisanal excellence from diverse creative fields with a distinct Venetian spirit. The result is five fragrances you first see, then smell and wouldn't easily forget.

At a time when the art of the flacon is all but lost, Blazy has created undulating glass bottles with distinct air bubbles – thanks to an innovative process that recreates the aesthetic of mouth-blown Murano glass – as a nod to both the Venetian Lagoon and Bottega Veneta’s supple leather. The bottles’ wooden caps, with a distinct hue for each fragrance, take their cues from Venice’s famous palazzos. Presented on green Verde Saint Denis marble plinth – fans of the brand will recognise the stone from its latest store designs – the creations make a fine sculptural statement.

Drawing from Venice’s legacy as a meeting point for different cultures, Blazy’s olfactory Intrecciato weaves together 100% natural origin essences from different corners of the globe. Orange blossom from Morocco is paired with French Angelica oil in Colpo di Sole, whilst Déjà Minuit blends spicy Guatemalan cardamom and sophisticated geranium from Madagascar. Deep and decadent Alchemie marries precious Somalian myrrh with Brazilian pink pepper and the invigorating Come With Me is a mix of powdery French orris butter and Italian bergamot. Combining woody Spanish labdanum and Macedonian juniper oil, the final fragrance, Acqua Sale, is a refreshing splash of saltwater on hot Mediterranean day.
