AD Explores Jumeirah Marsa al Arab with Shaun Killa

Hi, AD, my name is Shaun Killa,

I'm the founder of Killa Design

and we designed Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab.

[gentle music]

The inspiration behind Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab started

with the idea of a narrative of history.

So it's almost like a line of history,

going from something which is more traditional

through modernism and contemporary

to something that's more futuristic.

With ultra yachts as the inspiration,

we wanted to create the same sense of being in water

through curvatures, almost like a yacht going out to sea.

The Marsa Al Arab is, it's the only Jumeirah resort

which actually is dual-sided

because on one side we have the Burj Al Arab,

and on the other side we've created the marina.

This one is facing outwards towards the sea,

so they have beautiful end units all the way along the front

and then of the penthouses on the top,

and then you've got the dual sided

double aspect rooms facing either the Burj Al Arab

or the marina and down to Burj Khalifa.

The arch under the hotel

is one of the most unique aspects of the project.

It represents the entire guest drop-off experience

where the moment you drive up to the hotel

and get dropped off,

you are presented with this beautiful view

where the arch opens to frame the Burj Al Arab

and the design journey begins.
